Catalina Island is a resort town about 1 hour away from Southern California. The island was the home of William Jr. and Ada Wrigley. The island is now mostly owned by the Santa Catalina Island Conservancy. There are private homes, hotels, restaurants and places to just "hang out." Most of the permanent residents live in Avalon. The primary mode of transportation is by "golf carts." It is nice to walk, go to the library, see the sites and eat at the restaurants. There are buffalo, foxes, many species of birds, and a natural botanical garden.
